Citroen Xsara rear window price, by year

Replacement costs vary primarily by generation and whether your variant has encapsulated glass. Earlier 1998–2001 models with standard-trim rear windows are typically more affordable; later variants with factory-encapsulated edges require matching that specification at replacement.

5 stars from start to finish

I received an instant quote from UK Car Glass, £200 cheaper than a competitor for a full windscreen replacement. Booked it, technician arrived when he said he would, communication throughout was outstanding and the work done was top notch. I couldn't fault the service I received, 5 stars.

Booking on line took order and confirmed the window screen replacement for this Tuesday, arranged to travel and take time from work only to get an email today to say can not be done until next week. Terrible service (or lack of service)

Misleading pricing practice

I submitted the details of my vehicle including license plate (from which they can get the VIN) and was given a quote for a replacement windscreen with calibration and home installation. It was a good price compared to competitors and the technician would have been able to repair at home. I accepted the quote and made payment for £889.11, and waited for the confirmation of date and time of installment. 18 hours later I received a call saying that a technician would be able to come out tomorrow to install, however the price quoted was incorrect and in fact it would be £200 more expensive as they got the windscreen part number wrong. Very annoying and potentially misleading pricing practice. I told them to recredit my card and that I would look elsewhere

What to expect during your Citroen Xsara rear window replacement

Booking a rear-window replacement through UK Car Glass takes just a few minutes, and your fitter will confirm what happens on the day.

  1. 1

Answer a quick quiz about your Xsara's year and features to identify your exact variant.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote and choose a date that suits you.

  3. 3

Your approved technician checks the parts specification and sources your replacement glass to match the original.

  4. 4

On fitting day, the shattered rear glass is removed and the new panel installed — typically 30–60 minutes of technician time.

  5. 5

Because a shattered rear window leaves glass shards, your fitter will remove what's accessible; we recommend a professional interior valet afterwards to reach places that need deeper cleaning.

  6. 6

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time before you leave, and your two-year warranty begins immediately.

Every job comes with a two-year workmanship and glass warranty, backed by our network of local specialists.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Xsara?

Most rear-window replacements on the Xsara are fitted mobile at your address — your fitter brings the tools and glass to you. No ADAS calibration is involved with rear windows, so there's no technical reason to visit a workshop unless you prefer it for convenience or weather protection.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

What features does your Xsara have?

  • Green2
    1998–2005

Green tint reduces glare and improves visual comfort by filtering certain light wavelengths.

    What it means

Green tint is a light-filtering coating applied to the glass during manufacture. It absorbs and reduces transmission of certain wavelengths of light, primarily to cut glare from sunlight and reflections. The tint is subtle — often barely visible to the naked eye — but measurably improves visual comfort during prolonged driving, particularly in bright conditions. It's a factory specification chosen by the vehicle manufacturer to balance daylight comfort with interior visibility and aesthetic consistency across all glass in the vehicle.

    How to tell

The easiest way to check is to roll your side window halfway down and hold a piece of white paper behind it. Look carefully for a tint cast — green tint will appear as a subtle green hue compared to clear glass. Your windscreen will have the same tint as your side windows. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre — they'll have the original specification on file.

    Replacement impact

Green-tinted replacement glass must match the original tint specification to maintain visual consistency across all windows and preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Aftermarket OE-equivalent (OEE) green-tinted glass is widely available, though some vehicles may require original equipment (OEM) dealership glass if the tint specification is proprietary. Tint does not affect calibration, cure time, or installation procedure — it's a cosmetic and functional specification only.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen2
    1998–2005

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

About the Citroen Xsara

The Citroën Xsara was produced from 1998 to 2005, spanning two distinct generations with different rear-window specifications. Early models featured straightforward toughened rear glass, while later variants introduced green-tinted rear windows as standard.

Most Xsara variants carry a green-tinted rear window, and around half feature encapsulated glass — meaning the rubber trim is factory-bonded to the glass itself. When you book a replacement, the entire panel-plus-trim assembly arrives pre-fitted, so your technician installs the complete unit rather than fitting trim separately.
